Water Festival Art Contest!!

Call for Entries
Northern Michigan students and residents are encouraged to participate in the inaugural Traverse City Water Festival to be held December 12-14, 2008 at the City Opera House and GT Commons.

The Water Festival is a non-profit celebration held in cities around Michigan dedicated to the education, conservation, and preservation of our Great Lakes and Michigan’s inland watersheds. Live musicians, educational workshops, childrens’ activities, community speakers, and local foods will all be part of the activities.

Writing
Format 1: Haiku. Subject: Water, of course!
Format 2: Essay. In 1000 words or less, explain one solution that schools, homes, or businesses could use to conserve water usage. Also include an action plan to help implement the idea.

Freestyle, Yo
Format: Free to choose! Painting, sculpting, song writing… any artwork that doesn’t fi t under the other two formats! Express your creativity by painting a picture of a Coho salmon swimming upstream, or sculpt a painted turtle sunning on a log. Want to write a song about your favorite lake, or build an aquarium table in woodshop? Freestyle is the category for you!

Film and Video
Format: Digital. Five minute maximum length. Music videos, documentaries, expose’s … anything goes when creating your video. Encourage friends/family members/classmates/anyone to get involved and show us your view of water and its importance as a natural resource.

Deadline and Information
Submission must be received no later than Friday, December 5th. Categories will be judged by age groups: 0-7 years, 8-13 years, 14-18 years, and 18+years. Cash prizes for winning entries, all enries to be on display at the Festival. Written submission should be emailed to jordanbbates@gmail.com or mailed to: Higher Grounds Trading Co. c/o Water Festival Art Contest, 806 Red Drive Suite 150, Traverse City, MI 49684. All other entries should be delivered to Higher Grounds with artist contact information included.
